A Message to Families of the Innocent

We receive many calls from families who tell us that their incarcerated loved ones are innocent. While some people in prison are not willing to face their guilt or have other reasons for maintaining their innocence, we know that some prisoners are truly innocent. Research and the newspapers remind us all of this almost weekly. What a terrible thing for a prisoner and family to live through. When we conduct trainings for the professionals who work with children of prisoners, we always speak about the possibility of innocence and how to respond appropriately to a child who says "dad is innocent" or "mom did not do it".

We do not have legal resources to take on a case but we are in touch with others who might. Often, these legal clinics and innocence programs are overwhelmed with cases--but we can explain steps you can take to move the case along and provide you with some other resources that might be useful. We can also help you to keep your family as strong as possible while your loved one is in prison.
